Peoria Holds on for 4-2 Win against Fayetteville

The Peoria Rivermen survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fayetteville FireAntz on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Garrett Vermeersch put Peoria up 4-1 in the third period, but Fayetteville pulled to within two on Kevin Kessler's tally 19:28 into the third period.

The Rivermen were paced by Adam Hartley, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hartley scored 13:16 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Peoria.

The 32 shots that Peoria put on net surpassed the Rivermen's average of 19.5 shots per game this season.

Peoria also got points from Vermeersch, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Peoria included Adam Feniak and Robert Vanwynsberghe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Peoria received assists from Taylor Larsen, who had two and Jarrett Rush and Joe Schiller, who contributed one each.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The FireAntz's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.5 shots per game they average.

Fayetteville was led by Zach Carriveau, who had one goal and one assist. Carriveau scored on the power play 14:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. The FireAntz earned a power play opportunity when Cole Ruwe was put in the box for boarding. John Clewlow picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Michael Zannella, who had one.

Peoria's Kyle Rank stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Rivermen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dustin Carlson rejected 28 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
