Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

BLOOMINGTON, IL - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers took on the Bloomington Thunder tonight for the penultimate game of the 2013-14 SPHL regular season and came out with a 2-1 victory thanks to a two point night by Adam Pawlick.

The first period was an even affair with a ton of chances both ways. Through 20 minutes, Bloomington and the Ice Flyers matched each other shot for shot and had 18 each.

Bloomington didn't wait long into the second period to break the tie as a bouncing puck fired by Curtis Megginson slipped past Ross MacKinnon 2:05 into the middle period. Just over four minutes later John Dunbar slid the puck over to Pawlick who put it under BJ O'Brien's right leg to tie the game 6:16 into the second. Dunbar had the only assist on Pawlick's 27th goal of the year. Pensacola took the lead after Pawlick forced a turnover and then passed the puck over to Ryan Salvis who put it top shelf over O'Brien's right shoulder.

The third period proved to be scoreless just like the first. It wasn't due to a lack of effort as the Ice Flyers more than doubled up Bloomington in shots 15-7 in the third. Pensacola finished with a 51-35 edge in shots for the full game.

MacKinnon stopped 34 of the 35 shots the Thunder put on net for his 22nd win of the season. Salvis was named the second star of the game while Pawlick picked up first star honors with a goal and an assist.

The Ice Flyers will close out the regular season tomorrow night as they again take on the Bloomington Thunder. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Central Time.
