
Pensacola Ice Pilots announce hiring of new athletic trainer

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL announced today (Tuesday) the hiring of Greg Svarczkopf (Pronounced Shwartzkof,) as the team's new athletic trainer for the upcoming season.
Svarczkopf, a native of Baltimore, Maryland spent last season as the Athletic Trainer of the Trenton Titans of the ECHL after interning with the team the previous season.
"I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with this organization," Svarczkopf said. "I really enjoyed my time in Trenton and the North Division."
Svarczkopf will be responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating athletic training services, assessing the health needs of the players and working collaboratively with the medical staff and doctors.
"Greg's familiarity with the league will be an asset for us," said Ice Pilots coach George Dupont. "He comes to us highly recommended, and we're happy to have him on board in such a key role with the Ice Pilots."
Svarczkopf graduated in 2003 with a Degree in Athletic Training at the University of Indianapolis. He also completed his undergraduate work at the University.
Pensacola Ice Pilots training camp officially gets underway on Friday at the Pensacola Civic Center, however players will not take the ice until the following week. A press release outlining the full on ice schedule will be issued later one this week alerting fans and media when they will be able to attend.
The Ice Pilots begin their 2006-2007 schedule on Friday, October 20 when they travel to Cincinnati to face the Cyclones at US Bank Arena at 6:30 pm central time. The first weekend of the season continues on Saturday, October 21 with a visit to historic Johnstown, PA to face the Chiefs at 6 pm. The road trip concludes on Sunday, October 22 at 3:35 pm central time with a visit to Reading, PA to meet the Royals. All games can be heard live on the Classic Country AM 1620 beginning with Ice Pilots Countdown.
The Pensacola Ice Pilots home opener is set for Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 pm when they host the Texas Wildcatters at The Hangar. Then after a return trip to Beaumont, TX on Saturday, the Ice Pilots return home to host the Columbia Inferno on Sunday, October 29 at 6:05 pm.
