Goaltender Dubnyk, Three Oilers Forward Prospects Assigned To Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, an ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, has announced goaltender Devan Dubnyk and center Tyler Spurgeon have been assigned to the Thunder from Edmonton, and left wingers Liam Reddox and Troy Bodie have been assigned to the Thunder from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.

DEVAN DUBNYK ASSIGNED TO THUNDER

A first round selection (14th overall) of the Oilers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Dubnyk is slated to make his professional debut with Stockton after spending 2006-07 pre-season NHL training camp with the Oilers. The Calgary, Alberta native posted a 1-1-0 pre-season record and a .965 save percentage in two games, stopping 56 of 58 shots. Dubnyk shutout the Phoenix Coyotes in his pre-season debut, making 27 saves in a 5-0 Oilers win on September 17.

The 6-foot-5, 182-pound goaltender was ranked #2 among North American Goaltenders by the NHL Central Scouting Service prior to the 2004 draft and spent his entire five-year (2001-06) junior hockey career with the Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers, where he posted an 83-87-14 record, .912 save percentage and 2.69 goals-against-average in 192 career games. Dubnyk helped guide the Blazers to the first round of the President's Cup Playoffs in 2002-03, earning Kamloops Rookie of the Year honors with a 12-8-1 record and .907 save percentage in 26 games.

Dubnyk, 20, notched a career-best .917 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against-average in 44 games in 2003-04, compiling a 20-18-5 record while ranking third in the league with six shutouts.

Dubnyk was part of Canada's World Junior Championship team selection camp (Under-20 category) in 2005, which included current NHL phenoms Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Dion Phaneuf (Calgary Flames). He also helped guide Team Alberta to a Gold Medal at the 2003 Canada Winter Games tournament.

TYLER SPURGEON ASSIGNED TO THUNDER

An eighth round selection (242nd overall) of the Oilers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Spurgeon is slated to make his professional debut with the Thunder after spending 2006-07 training camp with the Oilers. The Edmonton, Alberta native appeared in three Oilers pre-season games, as Edmonton went 2-1-0 with Spurgeon in the lineup.

The 5-foot-10, 188-pound center previously spent his five-year (2001-06) junior hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, scoring 124 points (43g-81a) in 212 career junior games, along with 36 points (17g-19a) in 72 career playoff games. Spurgeon led the Rockets in scoring with 62 points (21g-41a) in 72 games during 2004-05, while ranking second on the Rockets with 11 playoff goals en route to Kelowna's President's Cup Championship, the club's second WHL title in three seasons.

Spurgeon, 20, scored 24 points (8g-16a) in 49 games and nine points (4g-5a) in 17 playoff games for a 2003-04 Rockets team that won the Canadian Hockey League's Memorial Cup Championship, awarded to the tournament champion in a field comprised of teams from the WHL, OHL, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

LIAM REDDOX ASSIGNED TO THUNDER

A fourth round selection (112th overall) of the Oilers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Reddox is slated to make his professional debut with the Thunder after beginning 2006-07 training camp with the Oilers. The 20-year old, East York, Ontario native appeared in one pre-season game with Edmonton in a 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on September 21.

The 5-foot-9, 177-pound left winger spent his four-year (2002-06) Ontario Hockey League junior career with the Peterborough Petes, scoring 210 points (86g-124a) with 134 penalty minutes in 208 career games. Reddox scored a team-leading 31 goals, 33 assists and 64 points in 2003-04, tied for the team-lead in scoring with 82 points (36g-46a) and led Peterborough with 46 assists in 2004-05. Reddox ranked second on the Petes with 45 assists in 2005-06 and scored 64 points (19g-45a) in 68 games while helping guide Peterborough to an OHL Robertson Cup championship, scoring 14 points (5g-9a) in 19 playoff games.

TROY BODIE ASSIGNED TO THUNDER

A former junior teammate of Spurgeon and a ninth round selection (278th overall) of the Oilers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Bodie is slated to make his professional debut with Stockton after beginning the 2006-07 training camp period with the Oilers. The 21-year old, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba native appeared in two games with the Oilers during the pre-season, as Edmonton went 1-1-0 with Bodie in the lineup.

The 6-foot-4, 213-pound left winger spent his four-year (2002-06) junior hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets (WHL), scoring 129 points (64g-65a) with 361 penalty minutes in 250 career games and posting 38 points (17g-21a) in 64 career playoff games. Bodie scored 17 points (4g-13a) in 24 playoff games in 2004-05 as a part of Kelowna's President's Cup Championship team, while registering seven goals and three assists for the Rockets' Memorial Cup championship team in 2003-04.

The Thunder opens 2006-07 training camp on Friday, October 6 at Stockton Arena and faces the Fresno Falcons in a 4:00 p.m. PT pre-season game on Sunday, October 15 at Stockton Arena. Stockton begins the 2006-07 ECHL season Friday, October 20 on the road against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:00 p.m. PT at Rabobank Arena, and faces the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Saturday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. PT in the home opener at Stockton Arena.
