Salmon Kings announce partnership with amateur hockey
October 3, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, have partnered with the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) and BC Hockey to conduct 50/50 fundraising events at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre during all 36 home games.
The VIAHA supports approximately 7000 athletes and 350 teams on the island, through a volunteer base of more than 20,000 members. It provides public programs open to minor aged hockey players to develop their skills and compete in a sport that they love.
"The game of hockey is much more than just a game," said Randy James, Executive Director of the VIAHA. "It provides many unique learning and lifestyle opportunities, and gives youth a chance to express themselves through sport, as well as build friendships and enhance their emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being."
At each Salmon Kings home game, VIAHA will receive half of the funds raised through 50/50 draw ticket sales, while the other half of the funds will be given to the winner announced.
"This partnership gives us tremendous opportunity to generate awareness and market our programs and services in the community," said James.
The Victoria Salmon Kings generated more than $66,000 in charitable contributions last season.
Look for the VIAHA volunteer crew at the Salmon Kings first home game on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:05 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Purchase tickets by calling 220-7777.
