
Pens Fail to Gain Ground with 3-1 Loss

HERSHEY, Pa. (March 23, 2003) - Eric Bertrand recorded a goal and an assist and goaltender Phil Sauve made 20 saves to lead the Hershey Bears to a 3-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday before a crowd of 8,302 at the Giant Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Bears took a 1-0 lead on Marc Busenburg's fourth goal of the season 25 seconds into the second period, ending goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin's shutout streak at 147:07.
But the Penguins answered right back and tied the game 19 seconds later as Matt Murley scored his 18th goal of the season.
The Bears took the lead for good when Travis Brigley scored a short-handed goal at 11:23 to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
Late in the game, Bertrand notched his 18th goal of the season with three seconds left in the third period to close out the scoring for the Bears.
With the win, Hershey improved to 33-24-13-2 (81 points) while the Penguins' record fell to 32-31-5-5 on the season.
The Penguins now trail the second-place Bears by seven points and the South Division leading Norfolk Admirals by eight points. The Penguins have seven games left in the regular season, including two at home against the Admirals. The Penguins are off until Friday when they host the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
