Last Week: The Bears enjoyed an unbeaten week with two wins and a tie. The week started with a 3-3 tie at Utah against the Grizzlies Wednesday. Cail MacLean paced the offense with a goal and an assist. Friday night, Eric Bertrand scored the game winning goal in overtime as the Bears slipped by the Grizzlies 3-2 in West Valley City. Both Bertrand and Steve Brule had three point games in the winning effort. After the only Saturday off during the regular season, the Bears defeated the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-1 at GIANT Center Sunday night. Travis Brigley scored the game winning goal short handed in the second period, as Phil Sauve won his 24th game of the season. After gaining a first place tie Friday night for the first time since December 17th, HERSHEY begins the week one point back of first place Norfolk. Both teams have eight games remaining in the regular season, including two against each other.
Notables: Both Travis Brigley and Eric Bertrand have active five game point streaks as the team heads to Milwaukee Wednesday night. Brigley has a point in every game since being acquired by HERSHEY on March 13th. The short handed goal for Brigley was his first as a Bear, but his sixth of the season. The six shortys for Brigley is 2nd in the AHL to Chicago's Ben Simon, who has seven. With eight games remaining, Phil Sauve needs just one win to tie his career high for most wins in a season. Sauve had 25 victories for HERSHEY last season, and his 55th appearance of the season Sunday night tied his career high as well. The six game trip for the Bears is the longest for HERSHEY this season. Between flying and driving, the Bears will log 2,989 miles over the next 11 days before returning home to face the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday, April 5th.
Colorado Update: The Avalanche continues to pursue the Vancouver Canucks for the Northwest Division title this week with a game at Buffalo tonight against the Sabres and tomorrow at Ottawa against the Senators. Colorado returns home Thursday to face the Los Angeles Kings at Pepsi Center in Denver. The Avs then finish up a busy week Saturday afternoon with a game at home against Phoenix. The game is part of ABC's regional NHL coverage on Saturday.
