Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that the American Hockey League has released its conference and division alignment, schedule format and playoff plan for the 2005-06 season.

During the AHL Board of Governors' annual meeting today in Amelia Island, Florida, the league announced that the Penguins will remain in the East Division along with Binghamton, Bridgeport, Hershey, Norfolk and Philadelphia. The Pens' longtime division rival, the Albany River Rats, has moved over to join Hartford, Lowell, Manchester, Portland, Providence and Springfield in the Atlantic Division.

The Board of Governors also approved the schedule format for the 2005-06 regular season (schedule grid is attached). The Penguins will play 48 of their 80 regular season games against East Division opponents. The Penguins will play the Sound Tigers, Bears, Admirals and Phantoms a total of 10 times each (five home, five road) and will play eight games (four home, four road) against the Senators.

Other highlights of the Pens' schedule include eight games (four home, four road) against the Syracuse Crunch and four games (two home, two road) each against Albany and Manitoba. In addition, the Penguins will play two games (one home, one road) each against Toronto and Rochester.

Chicago, Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Houston, Iowa, Milwaukee, Omaha, Peoria and San Antonio will not be on the Penguins' 2005-06 schedule.

The AHL's 70th season will begin on Wednesday, October 12. The entire 2005-06 schedule is expected to be announced in late July.

At the conclusion of the 2005-06 regular season, the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs will feature the top four teams in each of the four divisions, with one possible exception: if the fifth-place team in the Atlantic Division finishes with more points than the fourth-place team in the East Division, it would cross over and compete in the East Division playoffs. The postseason format will again feature a divisional playoff, leading to conference finals and ultimately the Calder Cup Finals. All rounds will comprise best-of-seven series.

The Penguins will begin their seventh season in the American Hockey League in October. For information about season tickets, please contact the Penguins at 208-PENS or visit the team online at www.wbspenguins.com
