Connecticut Whale News Release
HARTFORD, June 29, 2005: The Hartford Wolf Pack will remain part of a very competitive Atlantic Division and will face new rivals in 2005-06, as the American Hockey League today released a new divisional alignment and schedule format for the upcoming season.
The Albany River Rats are now in the Atlantic Division, joining the Wolf Pack, Lowell, Manchester, Portland, Providence and Springfield. The East Division is comprised of teams from Binghamton, Bridgeport, Hershey, Norfolk, Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. To compensate for the Atlantic Division having one more team than the East, the fifth place team in the Atlantic Division will compete in the East Division playoffs if they finish with more points than the fourth place team.
The Western Conference has been realigned to make room for new teams in both divisions. The North Division will feature squads from Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Manitoba, Rochester, Syracuse and Toronto; while the West Division is made up of Chicago, Houston, Iowa, Milwaukee, Omaha, Peoria and San Antonio.
The Wolf Pack will play their new Atlantic Division rivals the Albany River Rats six times (3 home - 3 away), Lowell and Manchester eight times each (4/4), and Portland, Providence and Springfield 10 times (5/5). The club will play rival Bridgeport 10 times during the year (5/ 5). Hartford fans will welcome two teams they haven't seen play during the regular season in awhile, with Binghamton and Syracuse at the Civic Center for one game each. The Pack last played Binghamton during the regular season in 2002-03 and Syracuse in 2000-01. The club will also see action against Hershey (1/1), Norfolk (2/2), Philadelphia (1/1), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (1/1), Houston (1/1) and San Antonio (1/1).
Season tickets are on sale now, starting as low as $456 for adults and $228 for youth aged 16 and under. Call 860-548-2000 for details. The Wolf Pack open their home season on Saturday, October 15.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
