Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI --The American Hockey League announced today its new conference and divisional realignments for the upcoming 2005-06 season, as well as the format for the Calder Cup Playoffs. The league will continue to have two conferences, the Eastern and Western, comprised of two divisions each. Three of the divisions will have seven teams, while one, the East Division, will have six. The Providence Bruins will remain in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.
Among the Bruins opponents in the Atlantic Division are their traditional rivals, including the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Lowell Lock Monsters, the Manchester Monarchs, the Portland Pirates and the Springfield Falcons. In addition, the Albany River Rats have now shifted to the Atlantic.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in each division will qualify for the Calder Cup Playoffs. The one potential exception would be in the Eastern Conference. If the fifth place team in the Atlantic Division finishes with more points than the fourth place team in the East Division, the Atlantic team would shift over to the East for the first two rounds.
The Calder Cup Playoffs will feature Division Semifinals and Finals series, followed by Conference Finals and concluding with the Calder Cup Finals. All series will feature best-of-seven formats.
The AHL's 70th season opens on Wednesday, October 12 with the first of 1,080 games. The Bruins' home opener will be on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m.
The Providence Bruins are pleased to offer a "3-Game Plan", allowing fans to purchase tickets to three games for only $30. For $30, fans can purchase a ticket for Opening Night on October 14, as well as games on November 18 and December 16.
