Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, June 28, 2005) - The defending Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms today found out their opponents for the upcoming 2005-06 season, as the American Hockey League revealed its 1,080-game schedule format. Each of the AHL's 27 teams will play an unbalanced 80-game schedule featuring traditional and regional rivalries. The entire 2005-06 schedule is expected to be announced in late July.
Philadelphia will be facing 18 different teams next season, with 48 of its 80 games against fellow East Division foes. The Phantoms take on the rival Hershey Bears the most (12 games), followed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Norfolk (10 games apiece), and Bridgeport and Binghamton (8 games apiece).
Albany has been moved from the East to the Atlantic Division, but will still take on the Phantoms six times. Philadelphia will play two games against each of the six other teams in the Atlantic, and has non-conference match-ups with Chicago, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Manitoba, Syracuse and the expansion Toronto Marlies. Teams not on the Phantoms schedule next year include Cleveland, Houston, Iowa, Milwaukee, Omaha, Peoria, Rochester and San Antonio.
At the conclusion of the 2005-06 regular season, the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs will feature the top four teams in each of the four divisions, with one possible exception: if the fifth-place team in the Atlantic Division finishes with more points than the fourth-place team in the East Division, it would cross over and compete in the East Division playoffs. The postseason format will again feature a divisional playoff, leading to conference finals and ultimately the Calder Cup Finals. All rounds will be a best-of-seven series format.
The Phantoms are currently accepting season ticket and game plan deposits for the 2005-06 season. Log on to www.phantomshockey.com or call 215-465-4522 for more information.
