Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON - Hartford, Lowell and Portland will return to the Binghamton Senators' 2005-06 schedule after a two-year hiatus. The 2005-06 regular season schedule format was announced today by the American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews from the annual Board of Govenors' meeting in Amelia Island, Fla. The dates and times for all games will be released later in the summer.

Norfolk will replace Albany as Binghamton's most common foe in 2005-06 with 10 games scheduled between the squads. With Albany moving to the Atlantic Division, the teams will play only six times after meeting 10 times in each of the last two seasons. The B-Sens will play historical rivals Philadelphia, Hershey, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Rochester and Syracuse eight times each.

Half (40) of the Senators' games in 2005-06 will be played against East Division rivals. The remaining 40 games will be divided between the Atlantic and North Divisions with Binghamton playing Atlantic foes 18 times and North opponents 22 times. Binghamton will play none of their games against West Division teams.

The B-Sens hold an all-time record of 0-4-0 (wins-losses-ties) against Hartford, 1-1-0 against Lowell and 1-1-0 against Portland. Both Hartford and Lowell reached the 100-point plateau last season and advanced to the Calder Cup playoffs.

Manitoba and St. John's are the only teams dropped from the B-Sens' schedule. The St. John's franchise relocated to Toronto at the conclusion of last season and will play four times against the Senators in 2005-06.

The league also announced a change to the Calder Cup playoff format. At the conclusion of the 2005-06 regular season, the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs will feature the top four teams in each of the four divisions, with one possible exception: if the fifth-place team in the Atlantic Division finishes with more points than the fourth-place team in the East Division, it would cross over and compete in the East Division playoffs. The postseason format will again feature a divisional playoff, leading to conference finals and ultimately the Calder Cup Finals. All rounds will comprise best-of-seven series.
