Penguins Fall to Sharks at Home
April 19, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Freddie Hamilton scored two shorthanded goals in the final two minutes of the third period to secure a 4-2 victory for the Worcester Sharks over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
With the Penguins on the power play and looking to break a 2-2 deadlock late in the third, Hamilton led and finished off a two-on-one break, snapping the puck past Jeff Zatkoff to the gloveside. He capped off his two goal performance by putting the puck in the empty net with 58 seconds to go in the contest.
At 12:56 of the third, Riley Holzapfel knotted the game up at two as he scored his 20th of the season. Brian Dumoulin danced past a Sharks' forward on the blueline and let a shot go through traffic. The rebound found its way to Holzapfel's stick, where he tucked the shot inside the near post.
The Sharks struck on the power play six minutes into the third period to take a 2-1 lead. Adam Comrie ripped a shot past Zatkoff on the shortside for his third of the year.
Adam Payerl put home his third of the year at 3:06 of the first. Payerl circled off the near boards and wristed a shot off of the right pad of Alex Stalock. He gathered his own rebound and lifted the puck over the sprawled out netminder.
Rylan Schwartz netted his first AHL goal with 5:21 left in the first frame. Lane Scheidl's wraparound attempt was denied by Zatkoff, but Schwartz's backhanded rebound put back could not be stopped as the game became tied, 1-1.
The tally ended Zatkoff's shutout streak at 141:23. Zatkoff stopped 16-of-19 in the losing effort. Stalock made 12 saves for his 17th win of the season.
