Two-point performances from forwards Paul Carey and Tomas Vincour were not enough to propel the Lake Erie Monsters (34-31-3-7) past the Chicago Wolves (37-28-5-4), as the Monsters took a 5-2 loss Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena before a crowd of 11,962 fans. The Monsters saw their season-best five-game winning streak come to a close in the loss. Lake Erie will finish their 2012-13 season on Saturday.

Jim Vandermeer and Michael Davies- on the power play- scored on point shots for Chicago at 12:27 and 14:11 of the first period to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead before Vincour put the Monsters on the board in the final minute of the opening frame. Karl Stollery took a bank pass off the left wing boards from Carey, and sent a puck toward the net that was redirected in by Vincour for his fifth goal in as many games as a Monster, and his 19th of the season overall.

In the second period, Darren Archibald and Brad Hunt scored early, with Archibald's coming on the power play at 2:50, and Hunt's at 6:18 of the second period to give Chicago a 4-1 lead.

Chicago's fourth goal marked the end of the evening for Monsters starting goalie Sami Aittokallio, who stopped nine of 13 shots against in 26:18 of work.

Carey stopped the Chicago momentum when he tipped in his 19th goal of the season following a shot from Vincour in the left circle. Andrew Agozzino also assisted on Carey's power play goal at 12:21 of the second.

With Chicago on the power play at 17:11 of the second period, Andrew Gordon scored the game's last goal, sending a wrist shot top-shelf from the slot, to give Chicago a 5-2 lead.

Aittokallio is 14-12-1 after taking the loss. Calvin Pickard finished the game, stopping nine of 10 shots. Matt Climie stopped 40 of 42 shots in net for Chicago, improving to 24-24-3.

The Monsters finish the season Saturday night at The Q against Grand Rapids at 7:30 PM.
