Pirates Look to Clinch Playoff Berth against Sound Tigers

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight at the Cumberland County Civic Center for the second of their 3 meetings this week. Puck drop is set for 7 PM for the 5th matchup between the two Eastern Conference teams. Portland is 4-0 against the Sound Tigers this season, and look to clinch a playoff spot by earning just 1 point against Bridgeport this season. The Pirates currently sit in 6th place in the Eastern Conference with 83 points, the Tigers sitting in 11th with 74.

The last time these two teams met, the Pirates won in a thrilling 5-4 overtime comeback on Tuesday. Portland trailed by a 4-2 score with just 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd period before scoring three unanswered goals. Portland goaltender Mark Visentin faced 25 shots in the game, stopping 21, while veteran Bridgeport goaltender Rick DiPietro saw 29 shots, stopping 24. Pirates forward Chris Brown tallied 2 goals, scoring first and last, tallying the game winner just 0:26 into the overtime period. Other Pirates goals came from Brett Hextall, Mark Louis, and recent addition Lucas Lessio, with Louis and Lessio getting the first tallies of their respective careers. Bridgeport had 4 different players contributing goals, coming from Nino Niederreiter, Matt Donovan, Ty Wishart, and David Ullstrom.
