
Penguins acquire defenseman Kyle Rossiter from Chicago

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. â The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today acquired defenseman Kyle Rossiter (pronounced RAWS-ih-tuhr) on loan from the Chicago Wolves.
Rossiter, 24, has recorded six points (1+5) and 43 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Wolves this season. He was signed by Chicago as a free agent on September 30, 2004.
The 6'3", 220-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta appeared in 69 combined games last season with Florida and Atlanta of the National Hockey League, and San Antonio and Chicago of the American Hockey League. He started the 2003-04 season with the Panthers' AHL affiliate, the Rampage, recording 12 points (5+7) and 70 penalty minutes in 51 games. He also appeared in four games with Florida, going scoreless with seven penalty minutes before being traded to the Thrashers in exchange for center Kamil Piros on March 8, 2004. Following the trade, Rossiter recorded one assist in two games with Atlanta and posted one assist and 25 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Wolves. He was scoreless with 19 penalty minutes in six games with Chicago during the 2004 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Rossiter has appeared in 11 NHL games with Florida and Atlanta, collecting one assist and nine penalty minutes. In 315 career games in the AHL with Louisville, Utah, San Antonio and Chicago, he has recorded 43 points (11+32) and 443 penalty minutes.
Rossiter helped Canada capture the bronze medal at the 2000 World Junior Championships. He also recorded 78 points (21+57) and 616 penalty minutes in 245 games with Spokane (Western Hockey League) from 1996-2000. Rossiter played in the 2000 WHL All-Star game, won the Hardest Slapshot Contest at the 2000 WHL Skills Competition (92.6 mph) and was Spokane's nomination for the WHL's defenseman of the year award for 1999-2000. He was named the CHL and WHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 1997-98 and also participated in the CHL's Top Prospect Game.
Rossiter was selected by the Florida Panthers in the first round (30th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
