
Ed Campbell Named Sound Tigers Captain

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have named defenseman Ed Campbell team captain. Campbell is the fourth captain in team history and replaces Richard Seeley who was reassigned to the AHL's Norfolk Admirals yesterday.
Campbell, 30, first signed a professional tryout contract with the Sound Tigers on January 15th and has since signed a standard AHL player's contract retroactive to January 29th. The Worcester, Massachusetts native also formed the first brother act in Sound Tigers history when he first joined the team, skating with older sibling Jim who has since been reassigned to the AHL's Springfield Falcons.
Campbell has one assist and 25 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Sound Tigers, as well as one assist and ten penalty minutes in 12 AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals this season. He also appeared in one AHL game with the Hershey Bears earlier this season.
Campbell has played his entire professional career in either the AHL or the International Hockey League. He skated for the AHL's Providence Bruins last season, Grand Rapids Griffins in 2002-03, Worcester IceCats from 2000 through 2002, Hartford Wolf Pack for parts of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons and the Binghamton Rangers as a rookie in 1996-97, as well as for the IHL's Orlando Solar Bears in 1999-2000 and Fort Wayne Komets for parts of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
Campbell played three years of college hockey, 1993-96, with the University of Massachusetts - Lowell River Hawks of Hockey East and one season of junior, 1992-93, with the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers.
The New York Rangers selected Campbell in the eighth round, with the 190th overall pick, of the 1993 NHL draft.
The Sound Tigers will begin a stretch of four straight road games when they visit the Binghamton Senators tonight at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
