TODAY'S GAME AT A GLANCE: The Pelicans return to BB&T Coastal Field to open a six-game homestand and a three-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats. Myrtle Beach took three-of-four games from the Kinston Indians over the weekend at Historic Grainger Stadium.

TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: In a matchup of right-handers, Kyle Cofield will make his fourth start of the season, and third at BB&T Coastal Field. He will be opposed by Jared Hughes, also making his fourth start of the season, and second on the road

Cofield: Turned in his strongest outing the season his last time out, only to take the loss as the Pelicans fell in a morning series finale to the Winston-Salem Warthogs. The 21-year old turned in six innnings, permitting just two runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out four. He also took the loss in his first outing of the season on the road in Wilmington, lasting just three innings and conceding three earned runs on seven hits.

A native of Rainbow City, AL, Cofield was selected by the Braves in the eighth round of the 2005 entry draft and signed out of Southside High School in Gadsen, AL. He has advanced a level in each of his four professional seasons, debuting with the GCL Braves in 2005, the Danville Braves in 2006, the Rome Braves in 2007 and the Pelicans in 2008.

Hughes: Has taken the loss in all three of his starts thus far this season. That includes his last outing, when he didn't survive the fifth inning against the Potomac Nationals. He allowed three earned runs on five hits. All told, in 15 2/3 innings on the year, the 22-year old has given up seven earned runs on 15 hits, walking eight and striking out seven.

A native of Stamford, CT, Hughes was drafted by the buccos out of Long Beach State University in the fourth round of the 2006 draft. He spent the entire 2007 season with the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League, compiling an 8-9 record with a 4.64 ERA in 27 appearances, all starts.

HILLCATS BY THE NUMBERS: The Pelicans and Hillcats have met 179 times through the Pelicans nine-year existence, with Myrtle Beach holding a 96-83 advantage. However, the Pirates' affiliate had the best of it last season, claiming a 12-8 mark. The two teams also met in the 2000 Mills Cup Championship series, with the Pelicans winning their second Carolina League Championship in a three-game sweep. Lynchburg enters the first series of the season between the two clubs with a record of 6-10, good for third place in the four-team Northern Division.

ON THE LEADERBOARD: Right-hander Tommy Hanson has been the most dominant pitcher in the Carolina League through his first four starts. His historic run continued Saturday night as he worked six scoreless one-hit innings. Hanson currently leads the Carolina League in innings pitched prior to allowing an earned run (22 IP), strikeouts (32) and boasts two 11-inning scoreless inning streaks including his current string. The 21-year old has permitted just five hits this season. Hanson was named Carolina Leauge Pitcher of the Week (4/14-4/20).

Gorkys Hernandez boasts seven multi-hit games, and is currently tied for second in the Carolina League in total hits with 21. Hernandez leads the loop with four triples and is also running second with nine extra-base hits, which include his two game-opening homers in the Kinston series.
