April Showers - The K-Tribe is off to an unusually slow April start. The Tribe's ten April losses this season is already more losses in the month than in any of their previous four seasons. The K-Tribe has been the King of busting out of the gates lately. They have had winning records in each of the last four Aprils (2004 - 15-4, 2005 - 13-8, 2006 - 15-7, 2007 - 13-8), parlaying that into Southern Division first half titles in each of the last four seasons. Potomac's sweep of Kinston two weeks ago was the first time Kinston had been swept in the first half of a Carolina League season in more than five seasons. Kinston had not even lost three games in a row in April in the last five years before the sweep.
Myrtle Beach Cools Off Kinston's Hot Bats - Kinston managed to score just six total runs in their four game series (going 1-3) against Myrtle Beach this weekend. Coming into the series, Kinston led the Carolina League in batting average and was averaging over six runs and eleven hits a game.
Don't Pass Me By - The K-Tribe catching crew has not allowed a passed ball all season, tops in the league.
Weekend Blues - Kinston has not won a weekend game (Fri-Sun) yet this season. They are 0-7 on the year. Kinston is 1-0 on Monday.
Still Streakin' - Johnny Drennen continued his 13 game consecutive on base streak last night. The streak has been highlighted by a five walk performance last Monday night against Wilmington.
Still, Still Streakin' - Kinston's current streak of seven straight playoff appearances is the longest streak in the 63 year history of the Carolina League. During the streak, the K-Tribe has never used a Wild Card birth, winning at least one of the Southern Division halves each year. Kinston has made the Carolina League Playoffs in 8 of the last 9 and 11 of the last 13 years. Kinston has never missed the playoffs in back to back years as a Cleveland Indians affiliate (21 complete seasons).
