First Annual Pelicans Celebrity Bowling Tournament Set For April 26th

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are pleased to announce the formation of the 1st Annual Pelicans Celebrity Bowling Tournament to Benefit the ARC of Horry County. The celebrity bowling tournament, which will feature Pelicans' Manager Rocket Wheeler, Pelicans' players and local Grand Strand celebrities will take place on Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m.-Noon at Waccamaw Bowling Center in Myrtle Beach.

The bowling tournament is open to the general public. To experience the rare opportunity to bowl with the Pelicans and local celebrities, the fee will be $25 per person. The Pelicans will give 100-percent of the proceeds to the ARC of Horry County. If you simply want to watch the tournament, there is a two dollar cover fee to be paid upon entrance into Waccamaw Bowling Center.

"We are really looking forward to the first of what we know will be many great events to support ARC of Horry County," said Pelicans General Manager North Johnson. "They have made great strides for their worthy cause and we feel honored to have the ability to help."

The ARC of Horry County provides support to those with mental retardation and physical impairments. The ARC of Horry County also strives to encourage research into mental retardation and to increase public awareness and knowledge about mental retardation. 3rd Year Manager Rocket Wheeler will highlight the esteemed list of celebrities participating in the bowling tournament. A former 13th round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, Wheeler was named to the 1979 Carolina League All-Star Team. After his playing days, he went right into coaching. Prior to taking over in Myrtle Beach, he guided the Rome Braves (A) to the 2003 South Atlantic League title. The entire Pelicans team is scheduled to be at Waccamaw Bowling Center. In addition, local media members and dignitaries will be on-hand.

The Pelicans and Waccamaw Bowling Center will have door and raffle prizes that can be won by the participants in the bowling tournament.

To pre-register for the bowling tournament visit Waccamaw Bowling Center. Bowlers that do not pre-register must arrive at 9:30 AM on Saturday in order to enter.
