LIFE AT THE TOP: INF Brian Friday has been thriving in his time in the lead-off spot this year...In nine games at the top of the order the third round selection in last year's draft is hitting .400 (14-for-35) with a double, two triples, three RBI and seven runs scored...In his five other games the shortstop is batting .118 (2-for-17) with two runs scored...

KNOWN FOR HIS "D": INF Brian Friday was named the "Best Defensive Infielder" in the Pirates minor league organization by Baseball America prior to the start of the 2008 season...Friday was a third round pick of the Pirates in last year's draft out of Rice University...He was a member of their World Series teams in 2006 and 2007, which finished third in the country...
