Edmonton, AB - Overage Jordan Peddle dug up an OT winner as the Oil Kings took a 3-2 overtime win over the visiting Kootenay Ice in a great Central division battle on Saturday night at Rexall Place. Tenacious play in the offensive zone by Peddle, Rhett Rachinski and Oil Kings Captain Mark Pysyk led to the goal which marked the Oil Kings first overtime winner of the season. Newcomer Henrik Samuelsson made his debut on Rexall Place ice a memorable one as he notched his first WHL goal in the third to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime. Tyler Maxwell scored the other Oil Kings goal as the win gives the Kings a 28-10-1-4 record on the season for 61 points as they remain in sole possession of first in the WHL Eastern conference. For the fourth week in a row the Oil Kings were ranked in the Canadian Hockey League Top Ten rankings, this week - eighth in the CHL.
Edmonton has a quick turnaround as they make the trip down Highway 2 to take on the Calgary Hitmen tomorrow in a 2PM matinee game. All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca
The Oil Kings next home game is this Wednesday, January 18th as the Oil Kings play host to the Prince George Cougars. This will be a head to head matchup between oil Kings rookie Curtis Lazar and the only player selected before him in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft - Alex Forsberg. Puck Drop is set for 7PM MST at Rexall Place.
