Everett Silvertips News Release
KAMLOOPS, BC - The Everett Silvertips kept fighting to start another comeback, but couldn't follow Friday's overtime victory in a 5-2 to the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night at the Interior Savings Centre. Everett twice cut into three-goal deficits, but each time Kamloops scored again to maintain its lead.
Former Blazer JT Barnett scored a goal and assisted on the other by Ryan Murray as both Silvertips scores came on the powerplay. The 'Tips kept pushing and held a 14-4 shot advantage at one point in third period before falling short.
Everett started with a successful penalty kill before Kamloops got on the board midway through the opening period. Brandon Herrod found the puck on his stick off a deflected point shot and sent it into the top corner of Kent Simpson's net for the game's first goal. The 'Tips killed off a second powerplay before the Blazers cashed in on their third opportunity late in the period. Tim Bozon one-timed a nifty pass from JC Lipon into the net with 50 seconds left in the first to make it 2-0 for Kamloops.
The Blazers extended the lead to 3-0 thanks to a shorthanded breakaway goal from Chase Schaber just over two minutes into the second frame. Everett cut into the deficit midway through the period however, as Ryan Murray teed up a heavy point shot and slammed it into the back of the net for a powerplay goal at the 10:14 mark. Kent Simpson made a few key saves as the period progressed to keep the score unchanged, and the Silvertips trailed 3-1 going into the third.
Kamloops went back up by three on Bozon's second goal of the game, which came on another breakaway less than four minutes into the third. The 'Tips answered with their second powerplay goal when JT Barnett tipped a Nick Walters slapshot past Cole Cheveldave three minutes later to make it 4-2. The Blazers wouldn't allow Everett to come any closer however, capping the scoring with Brock Balson's tap-in goal with four minutes left in regulation.
Kent Simpson (6-22-1-5) finished the night with 30 saves as the Silvertips were outshot 35-26. Cole Cheveldave (23-5-1-2) stopped 24 shots in the win for Kamloops. Everett went 2 for 6 on the powerplay while giving up one tally on five Blazer powerplays.
The Silvertips will now return home for their third game in as many days this weekend, hosting the Kelowna Rockets at 5:05 pm Sunday afternoon at Comcast Arena. The 'Tips and Rockets haven't met since Kelowna escaped Everett's home opener with a 5-4 shootout victory back on September 24.
Silvertips group tickets and flex ticket packages can be purchased in person at the team office inside at Comcast Arena or by phone at 425-252-5100. Single game tickets are on sale by phone (866-332-8499), online (www.comcastarenaeverett.com) or at the Comcast Arena box office.
