Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants lost to the Kelowna Rockets 4-3 Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Vancouver outshot the Rockets 39-15, but couldn't find away to beat Kelowna netminder Adam Brown one more time.
With Brendan Gallagher, Dalton Sward, David Musil, and Adam Morrison all out with injuries, the Giants called up Brodyn Nielsen and Tyler Morrison for the match up with Kelowna. Cain Franson opened the scoring on a nice feed from Taylor Makin to put the Giants up 1-0. However, the Rockets would tie it up on the power play as Brett Bulmer beat Jackson Whistle on a breakaway to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.
The Giants dominated the second period outshooting the Rockets 14-3, but couldn't beat Brown or the post. Alex Kuvaev put it off the iron on the power play. Whistle made an unbelievable diving save off Zach Franko midway through the frame, but couldn't stop Colton Sissons with under a minute to play; the Rockets captain scored to give Kelowna a 2-1 advantage through 40 minutes.
Kelowna added to their lead 1:30 into the third period, but Riley Kieser would respond five minutes later for his 2nd goal of the year in his 3rd game with the Giants to cut the lead to 3-2. 29 seconds later on the power play Tyler Vanscourt banged home his first goal as a Giant to tie the game at 3-3. However, the Rockets would regain the 46 seconds later to go up 4-3. The Giants had their chances late, but could not beat Brown for the equalizer. 4-3 was the final. Brown made 36 saves for the win, while Whistle made 11 stops in Vancouver's net. The Giants finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Rockets went 1-for-2.
The Giants are back in action Tuesday January 17 when they play host to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It is the second and final meeting of the season. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
