Indianapolis Indians News Release
PAWTUCKET, RI - Justin Maxwell hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and it would be enough for the Pawtucket Red Sox who topped the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday evening, 3-1.
It was Indianapolis (24-23) who started the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Max Moroff clubbed his fifth home run of the year to right field for a 1-0 advantage. The blast now ties Moroff with Danny Ortiz for the team lead in home runs.
The lead was short-lived as Maxwell's homer followed in the bottom of the first. Rusney Castillo led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield. That set the stage for Maxwell who hit his fourth home run of the season onto the left-center field lawn at McCoy Stadium.
Pawtucket (24-25) expanded the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Deven Marrero sliced a single to right-center field to plate Sandy Leon. The Red Sox had the bases loaded with no one out, but Trey Haley was able to limit the damage.
Trevor Williams (0-1) made his first start for Indianapolis since leaving his April 10 start with a shoulder injury. He worked six innings and allowed just two runs on four hits.
Aaron Wilkerson (1-0) struck out nine batters and pitched into the seventh inning to earn the victory for the PawSox.
The Tribe and Red Sox will wrap up their three-game series at McCoy Stadium on Sunday evening. Jameson Taillon (3-2, 1.82) will start for Indianapolis, who will return to Victory Field on Monday. First pitch for the Tribe's Memorial Day game is set for 6:05 p.m. with a fireworks show to follow the game.
