Columbus Clippers News Release

In a pitcher's duel through and through at Huntington Park on Friday night between Columbus (26-21) southpaw Ross Detwiler and Durham (20-29) righty Jaime Schultz, Clippers left fielder Joey Butler losing sight of the ball on a fly ball hit his way with runners at the corners and two outs in the eighth inning was the difference, as Durham pushed both runners home and held on for a 2-0 series opening win in front of an audience of 10,003.

Detwiler went seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits, walking a batter and striking out six.

Schultz tossed six innings himself, giving up five hits, walking one and punching out a pair.

Josh Martin (0-1) was dealt the tough luck loss for Columbus while Parker Markel (1-1) picked up the win for Durham in relief of Schultz.

Dylan Floro was given the save, his second of the season.

The Clippers and Bulls will go at it again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. from downtown Columbus. Right-hander Cody Anderson (0-0, 6.35 ERA) is set to start for the Clippers against fellow righty Austin Pruitt (3-2, 2.54 ERA) for the Bulls.
