Indianapolis Indians News Release
PAWTUCKET, RI (May 27, 2016) - Five Pawtucket errors and great pitching helped the Indianapolis Indians top the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night, 4-2. The PawSox committed five errors and Tribe pitchers limited Pawtucket to just six hits.
Tyler Glasnow (4-2) worked six innings and earned the win. He limited Pawtucket to just two runs on five hits, and he struck out six batters. Curtis Partch authored scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth, while Jorge Rondon converted his fourth save of the season in the ninth.
The Tribe took an early lead with an infield single in the top of the first inning. Adam Frazier pushed a ball to third base, he reached safely and Gift Ngoepe scored on the play.
Bryce Brentz would double a pair of runners home in the bottom of the fourth to erase the 1-0 deficit and give Pawtucket a 2-1 advantage.
In the sixth, with Willy Garcia at third base, Jacob Stallings laid down a bunt that would send him home. The throw went to the plate but was off-line and late, and Stallings was credited with a sacrifice and a run batted in. Later in the frame, Ngoepe hit a fly ball to center field that was caught by Rusney Castillo. Pedro Florimon tagged from third, and scored when catcher Sandy Leon couldn't hang onto the throw from Castillo.
The Indianapolis lead was extended on a sacrifice fly by Florimon in the seventh.
William Cuevas (4-2) conceded three runs over his five innings of work and was handed the loss.
The Indians and Red Sox will play game two of their three-game series Saturday evening at McCoy Stadium. First pitch is 6:05 p.m. with Trevor Williams scheduled to make his first start since returning from the disabled list.
