Bridgewater, New Jersey - With New York Yankees RHP Luis Severino on the mound for a rehab start, the Somerset Patriots (49-29) topped the Bowie Baysox (46-31) 8-4 to kick off the series on Tuesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

Severino got tagged early on a two-run home run by Adley Rutschman (17) in the first inning. He then rebounded to finish with four strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of work.

Somerset showed their own power on a go-ahead three-run blast by Dermis Garcia (20) in the seventh. The slugger went 2-for-4 and added two runs scored.

Both Oswaldo Cabrera and Michael Beltre had RBI doubles to knot the game up early. An Isiah Gilliam RBI single in the fourth gave the Patriots their first lead of the night.

Zach Watson's two-run homer (3) in the seventh was the one blemish on a stellar relief performance by Shawn Semple (W, 4-2) that was highlighted by nine strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.

In his return to Somerset, Jefry Valdez (S,1) earned the save with 0.2 innings pitched and a strikeout. Steven Klimek (L, 3-4) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs- four earned- on four hits in two innings pitched.

Somerset and Bowie will continue the series on Wednesday night with a 7:05 pm game at TD Bank Ballpark.
