Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Bowie Baysox (6-2, 33-44) defeated the Somerset Patriots (3-5, 47-30) by a final score of 5-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.
Cesar Prieto wasted no time in putting Bowie in front after he singled to right field with runners on first and second to score Connor Norby in the top of the first.
Norby then brought home Andrew Daschbach the following inning on a groundout before Colton Cowser scored J.D. Mundy on an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
Cowser (2) struck again in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to center field that gave Bowie a 4-0 advantage.
The Patriots climbed back into the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Brandon Lockridge (7) solo home run as well as Jesus Bastidas and Mickey Gasper RBI singles that cut the deficit to 4-3.
Mundy added a final insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double to knock in Hudson Haskin and put the Baysox on top 5-3.
Gasper (5) added another run on the board in the bottom of the ninth on a solo shot to straight away center for the 5-4 final.
Drew Rom (5-1) tossed 5.2 frames and allowed three earned runs with four strikeouts to earn the win. Randy Vasquez (0-3) allowed four runs across five innings in the loss. Jensen Elliot (2) recorded the final three outs of the game to notch the save.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday, July 7 with a 7:05 pm game against the Baysox at TD Bank Ballpark.
