Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher Kyle Harrison has been selected to participate in the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Saturday, July 16 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday.
Harrison, currently rated by MLB.com as the San Francisco Giants' No. 2 prospect and the No. 27 overall prospect in baseball, will represent the Giants in the annual prospect showcase as part of MLB's All-Star festivities.
The 20-year-old left-handed pitcher has made seven starts for the Flying Squirrels this year, going 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA while picking up 57 strikeouts in 36.1 innings of work. He began the year with High-A Eugene and made seven starts before being promoted to Richmond on May 24.
Through Tuesday, Harrison is leading all Minor League pitchers with 116 strikeouts on the season.
Harrison was selected by the Giants in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. For the Futures Game, he will return to Southern California, where he lived for part of his childhood.
Last year in his professional-debut season, Harrison pitched for the Low-A San Jose Giants and struck out 157 batters, which was tied for eighth-most in the minors.
The 2022 Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of the first-ever All-Star Saturday. It will once again feature a National League vs. American League format, which was introduced in 2019 following 20 years of U.S. vs. World matchups. The game, which is scheduled for seven innings, will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 PT exclusively on Peacock and SiriusXM.
