Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the assignment of center Justin Papineau and defenseman Bruno Gervais to the team by the big club.

Papineau, 25, returns for his third stint with the Sound Tigers. The 5'11'' 205-pounder from Ottawa, Ontario had 18 goals, 16 assists, 34 points and 52 penalty minutes in 59 games with the team last season. He spent all of the 2003-04 campaign with the Islanders and split 2002-03 between the Islanders and Sound Tigers, as well as the NHL's St. Louis Blues and AHL's Worcester IceCats. Papineau was acquired by the Islanders from St. Louis in a March 2003 trade that sent goaltender Chris Osgood to the Blues. Originally chosen by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, he re-entered and was taken third, 75th overall, by St. Louis in 2000. Except for one game with the Blues in 2001-02, Papineau spent all of his first two professional seasons (2000-02) with Worcester after a four-year (1996-2000) major-junior career with the Ontario Hockey League's Belleville Bulls.

Gervais, who will turn 21 this Monday, had eight goals, 22 assists, 30 points and 58 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Sound Tigers as a rookie last season. The 6'1'' 197-pounder from St. Hyacinthe, Quebec was the Islanders' sixth pick, 182nd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Sound Tigers, he played three seasons (2001-04) with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Gervais was one of several Sound Tigers and Islanders who made an appearance on Thursday's broadcast of the hit television show "The Apprentice".

The Sound Tigers will host two preseason games at The Rinks at Shelton versus the Albany River Rats this Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Hartford Wolf Pack this Monday at 7:30 p.m. Information regarding the preseason games is available by calling 203-929-6500.

The Sound Tigers will also host a "Fan Fest" following their 11:15 a.m. practice at The Rinks at Shelton this Sunday. The team will be available to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photos, and full-season subscribers who have paid in-full will be able to pick up their tickets during Sunday's "Fan Fest".

Celebrating their fifth anniversary in Bridgeport as the top affiliate of the Islanders, the Sound Tigers will open the 2005-06 regular season with the first of four straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this coming Wednesday, October 5th. Their first home games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd and 23rd when they host the Portland Pirates and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
