Iowa Stars to Launch First Hockey Season with STARt-It-Up Celebration

DES MOINES, Iowa (Sep. 28, 2005) - The Iowa Stars will host an opening weekend street party, called STARt-It-Up, to launch the Iowa Stars inaugural hockey season. The party will start at 4:00 p.m. and last until the game with Omaha begins at 7:05 p.m. STARt-It-Up will take place on 3rd Street between Wells Fargo arena and Veterans Auditorium.

"The Iowa Stars are very excited to get started and STARt-It-Up is a good way for fans to kickoff the season," said John Pettit, president of the Iowa Stars. "This event will have a carnival-like atmosphere and is designed to be something fans of all ages will enjoy."

STARt-It-Up is free and open to the public. The event will include live performances by musicians Mike and Amy Finders, magician and comedian Lee Cole, face painters and themed hockey carnival games. Vendors will be selling food, beer and other refreshments. "We want to encourage everyone to attend this event and be a part of what we think will be an amazing first season of hockey in Iowa," said Pettit.

The event will also have a donation booth set up by the Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Those who wish to give at the event are asked by the Red Cross to give cash donations only. Food and supplies cannot be accepted at this event.
