
Pankewicz Called up to Wilkes Barre/Scranton

Windsor, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced this afternoon that Eagles right winger Greg Pankewicz has been called up to play for the Pittsburg Penguins affiliate team, Wilkes Barre/ Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Drayton Valley, Alberta native is one of six Eagles players on two way contracts with National Hockey League teams. Like Pankewicz, Eagles netminder Ryan Bach, defensemen Scott Swanson and Brent Thompson, are all on two-way contracts with Wilkes Barre/ Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), the affiliate team of the Pittsburg Penguins. Eagles defenseman Igor Bondarevs and center Riley Nelson (who recently returned from San Antonio) are on two-way contracts with the Florida Panthers.
In thirty-four games with the Colorado Eagles, Pankewicz has amassed 57 points (25-32-57), placing him third in the CHL for most points, second in the league for most goals scored (25), and sixth in the league for most assists (57). The 6', 205-pound right winger will leave Colorado early tomorrow morning and will play his first game with Wilkes Barre/ Scranton Saturday, January 17 at 5:05 p.m. (MST) against the Philadelphia Phantoms.
"It has been four years since I have played at that level [AHL], so I am excited and curious to find out how it has changed, or if it even has," stated Pankewicz. "This is also great for the team, Nelson and then me...Moving up to the next level is what this team is about, this should definitely spark some curiosity."
