Brahmas Give Killer Bees "Cool School" Lesson with 4-3 Win
January 13, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Four different players scored goals for the Fort Worth Brahmas to help the Brahmas to a 4-3 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Tuesday morning at the Fort Worth Convention Center in front of a Brahmas' single game franchise all time high 10,543 fans. The majority (over 6,000) of the record setting crowd was made up of fourth grade students from 75 Fort Worth ISD elementary schools that were at the game as part of the Brahmas first ever "Cool School" game.
Forwards Justin Williams, Jason Reesor, Jeremy Vanin all scored goals for
the Brahmas in the first two periods helping to stake the Brahmas to a 3-0
lead midway through the second period. The Killer Bees closed to within
3-1 when d-man Mike Rees blasted a shot past Brahmas goaltender Tyler
Nilsson at the 19:47 mark of the second.
At the 2:58 mark of the third period, Fort Worth's team captain, left wing
Chad Woollard, scored on a breakaway goal to extend the Brahmas lead to
4-1. Woollard's team high 14th goal would prove to be the game winner, as
the Killer Bees came back late in the third period with two consecutive
goals from forward Troy Linna and defenseman Jason Tessier to cut the Fort
Worth lead to 4-3.
The Killer Bees would push for the equalizing goal in the waning moments
of the game, pulling goaltender Jacque Vezina. Nilsson denied the Bees on
every opportunity, making several big saves to keep Rio Grande Valley from
getting the tying goal and sealing the Brahmas one goal win.
Vezina took the loss in net for Killer Bees, allowing the four Fort Worth
goals on 22 shots. Nilson stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced to win for
the sixth time this season for the Brahmas.
With the victory, Fort Worth's record improves to 11-20-6. The Brahmas
will try to stay on the winning track this Friday night, January 16, when
they host the San Angelo Saints at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention
Center. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817)
