November 1, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
The Flames dropped a 3-1 decision to Manitoba on Saturday at the i wireless Center. The Moose specialty teams made the difference in the win as the Flames went 0-8 on the man advantage while Manitoba scored twice on three power-play attempts. Brett Palin netted the lone Flames marker in the loss.
The only goal of the opening period came from an unlikely source as Brett Palin netted his first goal as a Flame in his 75th game with the team. Palin sent a shot through traffic and into the Manitoba net from the right wing point. John Armstrong recorded his first professional point with the primary assist on the goal. The Flames went on to control play for most of the period while outshooting Manitoba 12-7.
The Flames hit the post three times in the middle period but were unable to score as Karl Goehring turned aside all 13 shots he faced in the second frame. Meanwhile, Manitoba scored on a man advantage to tie the game at one. Michel Ouellet received credit for the marker after tipping a Jimmy Sharrow point shot into the Quad City net.
The Moose won the game after killing off six consecutive Quad City power plays through the middle stage of the second period and the first half of the third frame. Manitoba added insult to the Flames inability to convert on power-play chances by scoring a power-play goal of the their own with 2:40 left in regulation. Mark Cullen netted his third goal of the year on a shot from the goal line that was set up by Jason Jaffray. Michael Grabner added an empty netter to secure the win as Manitoba won their seventh consecutive decision.
The Flames will visit Bleacher Bums in Davenport on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. for another edition of Budweiser Flames Forum. Host Aaron Roof will be joined by David Van der Gulik, Dan Spang, Brett Sutter and Ryan Wilson. Fans in attendance will be eligible to receive prizes from the Flames and Budweiser. The show can also be heard live on 93.9 FM WYEC.
The Flames return to the ice on Friday night for their first home ice game vs. the Iowa Chops. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available now at the i wireless Center Box Office, via phone at (563) 326-1111 or on-line at ticketmaster.com.
