Falcons Beat Devils 3-2 - Sweep Weekend Series

The Springfield Falcons beat the Lowell Devils 3-2 on Saturday night at the Paul Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA improving their record to 5-3-1-0 on the season. The Falcons swept the weekend series with the Devils and they have now won three of their last four games.

The Falcons received a pair of goals from center Ryan Potulny in the win giving Potulny three goals in his last two games and a team leading eight markers on the campaign.

Leading 2-0 entering the third period, the Falcons saw the Devils cut their deficit to 2-1 when Patrick Davis scored at 7:05 of the final period. Springfield regained a two-goal advantage at 16:29 of the third period when Potulny scored his second goal of the game. Lowell once again cut their deficit to a single goal when Pascal Rheaume scored at 17:26 of the final stanza, but the Falcons held on for the win.

The Falcons started strong when Potulny converted on the power play at 14:41 of the opening frame giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

In a penalty filled second period, each team had their chances on the power play. The Falcons expanded their lead to 2-0 when Derek Bekar converted on the man advantage at 9:20, his second goal of the year.

The Falcons penalty killers were rock solid once again killing off all nine shorthanded situations on the night, led by goaltender Devan Dubnyk who made 24 saves.
