Devils Fall Short Against Falcons, 3-2
November 1, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Ryan Potulny's two goals, including the eventual game-winner with 3:31 left in regulation, were too much for the Lowell Devils to overcome in a 3-2 loss to the Springfield Falcons on Saturday at the Tsongas Arena. Last night it was Springfield's Liam Reddox potting a pair of goals in a 4-1 win that helped the Falcons sweep the home-and-home weekend series against the Devils.
Lowell was unable to capitalize on nine power play opportunities in the contest and it was Springfield using their man-advantage to stake a 2-0 lead through two periods of play. With the Falcons skating 5-on-3 in the first, Potulny was left alone on the near post to push a rebound across the goal line at 14:41 for the game's first goal. Derek Bekar was the benefactor on another Springfield power play as gathered in a pass from Ryan O'Marra and fired it past Dave Caruso at 9:20 of the second frame
Patrick Davis got the Devils on the board at 7:05 of thethird with some nifty stickhandling in the crease and a backhander around the leg pad of Devan Dubnyk for his third goal of the year.
Potulny helped the Falcons retake their two-goal lead at 16:29 of the same period with his second tally of the evening. Skating in on a 3-on-2 rush, Reddox fed a pass from the left wing that Potulny one-timed from the near circle through the five-hole of Caruso.
The Devils answered back 57 seconds later on Pascal Rheaume's third of the year, but could not manage another goal to send it into overtime.
Caruso took the loss in his first start of the season, making 14 saves on 17 shots.
The Devils will battle the Philadelphia Phantoms on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. Listen to all of the action live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the play-by-play.
