Moose Beat Flames for Seventh-Straight Win

Manitoba Moose News Release

In their third game in four nights, the Manitoba Moose extended their winning-streak to seven games with a 3-1 victory over the Quad City Flames. Mark Cullen netted the game winner, extending his point streak to seven-games, while goaltender Karl Goehring stopped 38 of 39 attempts for his second win.

Earning his first Moose victory after Wednesday night's 4-2 win over Quad City, Karl Goehring took position between the pipes again for the visiting Manitobans while Matt Keetley protected the net for the Flames.

Five-minutes into the inaugural period saw the Moose and Flames neck-and-neck in shots with both club's registering four attempts. At 7:06 Flames defenseman Brett Palin took a blast from the point and hit the back of Goehring's net, putting his sqaud on top of the Moose by one.

Nolan Baumgartner was dealt the games first infraction, for interference, giving the Flames an early man-advantage. The Moose's penalty-killers looked flawless and denied Quad City from extending their lead any further.

At 17:23 the Flames set-up their second powerplay, as Raymond Sawada was fined for slashing. Quad City was now outshooting the Moose 12-7, but went zero for two on the powerplay ending the first.

Manitoba's powerplay unit made their debut at 2:46 into the middle frame when Cam Cunning was penalized for hooking. Defenseman Jimmy Sharrow took a quick shot from inside the circle and Michel Ouellet tipped it in to close the gap at one on the man-advantage.

Two minutes later, a fired-up Peter Vandermeer squared off with Manitoba's Daniel Rahimi at center ice and landed a handful of lefts and rights to dominate the scrap. When both players fell to the ice, they were escorted to the box with five-minute fighting majors each.

Less than 40 seconds later, Oren Eizenman accompanied Rahimi in the penalty box after he was called for holding. The two-minutes proved too short for the Flames to capitalize and the home-squad went zero for three on the powerplay.

Darryl Bootland calculated 12-minutes of penalties, roughing and a misconduct, which would carry over into the final frame.

Bootland's two-minute roughing penalty timed-out and the Moose went six-for-six on the penalty kill in the early seconds of the third.

At 16:02 the Moose's powerplay unit made their third appearance and capitalized for the second time of the night. With help from Jason Jaffray and Michel Ouellet, Mark Cullen hit the back of the net to put the visitors up 2-1.

Minutes later Michael Grabner confirmed the victory for the Moose by scoring an empty netter, to finish the game 3-1.
