Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes were a victim of the long ball Wednesday night.

The Goldeyes (14-12) were defeated 9-3 by the Lincoln Saltdogs (12-14), largely due to a pair of three-run home runs, before 2,641 fans at Haymarket Park.

Phil Hawke hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and, after Winnipeg replied with a pair of runs in the second, Kevin Rios matched the feat as part of a five-run fourth inning for the Saltdogs to put the game out of reach.

Louis Ott hit a two-run single in the second inning for the bulk of Winnipeg's runs and Victor Ferrante had a solo home run in the eighth inning. Ott went 2-for-3 in the game, while Ferrante, Brian Myrow and Jonathan Wyatt also had a pair of hits in the game.

Goldeyes starter Dustin Glant allowed nine runs - eight of which were earned - over four innings and takes the loss. Lincoln starter Alessandro Maestri fanned six Goldeyes over six innings to get the win.

Reliever Barry Fowler tossed four shutout innings out of Winnipeg's bullpen.

Winnipeg had plenty of chances to get back in the game, as the visitors stranded 12 runners in the game.

The Goldeyes can split the four-game series with a win Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
