
On Your Mark...Get Set...5K with the Saints

ST. PAUL, MN (June 8, 2011) - It's starting to feel a little more like summer in the St. Paul area. What better way to enjoy the sunshine than getting outside and going for a nice walk or run' You can do so at Midway Stadium on the morning of Sunday, June 12th for the St. Paul Saints annual Running of the Pigs 2011 5K Fun Run & Walk.
Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate. Youths have the option to participate in a 1/4 or 1/2 mile race while the adults will participate in the 3.1 mile race, or the equivalent of rounding the bases nearly 182 times.
Saints Mascot Mudonna will lead participants in pre-race stretching which will begin at approximately 7:45 a.m. before the Youth Run kicks off at 8 a.m. with the 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile races.
Mudonna will also participate in the HealthPartners Mascot Trot at 8:15 a.m., including HealthPartners Mascots Petey P. Cup, Pokey the Syringe, plus Nordy (Wild), Goldy (University of Minnesota), Vicktor (Vikings), Harry and Shelly (Twin Cities Marathon).
The 5K Run/Walk will follow starting at 8:30 a.m. The race will be officially timed.
After participants complete the race and head home to clean up, they're invited back to the ballpark for a pre-game picnic starting at 11:30 a.m. leading up to the Saints and Gary SouthShore Railcats at 1:05 p.m. Food for the picnic is courtesy of Abetto's, located at 560 Como Ave. in St. Paul.
Following the picnic, participants will take the field for a "Ceremonial First Lap" around the bases at 12:45 p.m. before the first pitch at 1:05 p.m.
Registration in advance is $30 for adults and $20 for youths. An extra $5 will be charged for registering on the day of the race. The entry fee includes a short-sleeve 2011 "Running of the Pigs" T-Shirt, a pre-game meal voucher, and an outfield reserved ticket to the Saints game. For guests of race participants, extra picnic and game tickets are available for $5 and $8 respectively.

Parking for the race itself is available in the main parking lot at Midway Stadium free of charge and runners are advised to arrive early as the road will be closed 15 minutes before the race.
