Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - Better late than never for the home run king of the Gary SouthShore RailCats Cristian Guerrero, who picked the perfect time for his first home run of the 2011 campaign blasting the 2-0 pitch over the First Midwest Bank Catwalk at U. S. Steel Yard in the eleventh inning for a 2-1 walk-off win, the second in as many nights.
The RailCats slugger went the entire first quarter of the season before belting his first long ball but Guerrero's blast could not have come at a more opportune time. As the Domincan power hitter celebrated with his teammates after rounding the bases, you could see more than a sense of relief on his and every one of his teammates' faces, it was pure joy and excitement.
Three solo home runs accounted for all of the scoring at U. S. Steel Yard with the RailCats collecting two to secure the victory. The 'Cats took the lead in second when Lorenzo Scott belted a solo shot to right for the second consecutive night. The lead was short-lived as Sioux City answered in the next inning when second baseman Mike Murphy connected for his first home run of the season.
The RailCats pitching staff dominated once again and held the Explorers to just one run through 11 innings Wednesday night. Jack Frawley did not factor in the decision but followed up his eight shutout innings on Saturday with another great performance. The 6'2" right hander held Sioux City to one run on five hits through his six innings of work and lowered his ERA to 4.85 on the season. Lefty Zeb Engle pitched a scoreless seventh adding a pair of strikeouts and Chris Chavez also held the X's without a run in his two innings of work allowing a pair of hits and a strikeout. South Central graduate Travis Minix (1-0) earned the victory in his RailCats debut surrendering just one hit over the course of his two innings pitched.
The Explorers pitchers were equally impressive as starter Kyle Wright scattered seven hits over his seven innings before leaving with an apparent arm injury. Ex-RailCats hurler Eddie Delacruz was extremely effective for a second straight night keeping the 'Cats offense at bay for three scoreless innings of relief. Andrew Snowdon (0-3) took the loss for Sioux City after surrendering the blast to Guerrero.
The RailCats look for the series sweep of the Explorers as RHP Nolan Nicholson (1-4, 6.25) looks for a repeat performance of his last outing and goes against the X's RHP Ty Marotz (1-1, 2.16). Join the 'Cats for British Invasion Night at U. S. Steel Yard as the culture of the Old Country takes over the park as we celebrate
