Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
Two former Volcanoes pitchers were named to the 2015 Futures Game Thursday.
Tyler Beede and Kuery Mella, who both briefly played for Salem-Keizer in 2014, will represent San Francisco in the event. The Futures Game, which will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio, serves as a showcase for the very best minor league players in baseball in which American-born players face off against international prospects.
Beede, who will play on the U.S. Team, was a first-round selection in the 2014 Draft out of Vanderbilt University. The right-hander started two games for the Volcanoes that same year, posting a 2.70 ERA with seven strikeouts.
Mella will play on the Word Team. He started six games for Salem-Keizer in 2014, finishing with a 1-1 record and a 1.86 ERA before being promoted to Class-A Augusta.
Beede and Mella join Edwin Escobar (Volcanoes '10), Jesus Galindo (Volcanoes '11), Gary Brown (Volcanoes '10), Francisco Peguero (Volcanoes '08-'09), Angel Villalona (Volcanoes '07), Kevin Pucetas (Volcanoes '06), Nate Schierholtz (Volcanoes '03), Brian Bocock (Volcanoes '06), Pablo Sandoval (Volcanoes '05), Francisco Liriano (Volcanoes '01), and Jerome Williams (Volcanoes '99) as former Volcanoes that have played in the Futures Game.
