Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - Despite a late 9th inning rally from the Canadians offense, the defensive hole they dug themselves in earlier was too deep to pull out of as a quartet of errors helped Tri-City to a 6-3 victory on Wednesday night out at Gesa Stadium.

The Canadians would open the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning after back-to-back doubles from 3B Christian Vazquez and C Kevin Garcia put Vancouver up 1-0.

Tri-City would waste little time in responding offensively with three runs in the bottom of the 2nd as RF Henry Charles slammed his 1st home run of the season off of Canadians starter LHP Evan Smith with Carlos Belen on-base (double) to grab a lead that would never be relinquished. Nick Vilter would double and score shortly after to build the 3-1 lead.

Vancouver ran into trouble once more in the bottom of the 5th inning as Mason Smith led off the inning and later scored on a routine fly ball off the bat of Peter Van Gansen out to left field that popped out of LF Juan Tejada's glove to extend the lead. LHP Evan Smith would walk the next hitter he faced in Justin Pacchioli who would score on a throwing error from Canadians SS JC Cardenas while trying to complete a double play that would have ended the inning, but instead made it 5-1 Tri-City.

The Dust Devils would tack on a run in the home half of the 7th inning before Vancouver's offense tried to find a way to make a game of it.

In the 8th, Vancouver 1B Gabriel Cenas would single and advance to third base when CF Earl Burl III hit a ground ball to Dust Devils 2B Luis Urias who proceeded to throw it past 1B Ty French. With Cenas at third, DH Juan Kelly would hit a single to left field to cut the deficit to 6-2.

In the 9th, the Canadians would take advantage of an erratic LHP in Alex Constanza who walked lead-off hitter SS JC Cardenas and then proceeded to hit 2B Lane Thomas to put a pair of runners on base with no one out in the inning. After a RF Sean Hurley pop-up in foul territory on a 2-0 fastball that was out of the zone, LF Juan Tejada would single home Cardenas to make it a 6-3 game and put the tying run in the batter's box. Tejada, with one out, would then get picked off at first base, and 3B Christian Vazquez would pop out to left field to make the final 6-3 Tri-City.

The loss, combined with Everett's 6th victory in its first seven games puts Vancouver three games off the pace in the North Division.

The Canadians wrap-up an eight-game road trip to start the 2015 season on Thursday, June 25th at 7:15pm out at Gesa Stadium with RHP Francisco Rios (0-1, 4.50) gets the ball in the series finale.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Friday, June 26th, at 7:05pm as we welcome the defending Northwest League Champions from Hillsboro for the first of five games through June 30. Spokane will follow with a three-game series at "The Nat that runs from July 1 to 3. Tickets to the opener are sold out but remain for the other seven games that are part of this eight-game home stand.
