Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
HILLSBORO, Ore.-Hillsboro pounded out seven runs on 10 hits to beat the Volcanoes 7-2 Wednesday night at Ron Tonkin Field.
The Hops roughed up Volcanoes starter Logan Webb (0-1, 8.00 ERA), tagging the right-hander for six runs on eight hits in four innings of work. Hillsboro had at least one base runner in each of Webb's four frames.
Hillsboro used two three-run innings to push the game out of reach for Salem-Keizer, the first coming right away. Webb loaded the bases with nobody out in the first and then walked Stephen Dezzi, forcing in a run. The Hops cashed in on two sacrifice flies before Webb escaped the inning, already down 3-0.
Salem-Keizer chipped into the Hops' lead in the fourth, scratching across a run. Chase Compton led off the inning with a double to deep center - the Volcanoes' first extra-base hit in 12 innings. Miguel Gomez followed with a hit of his own - a single to left field - that placed men at the corners with still nobody out. Shilo McCall then lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Compton and put a dent in the Hillsboro advantage.
There's a run! @ShiloMcCall skies a ball to deep center to bring in @chase32compton on a sac fly. Salem-Keizer narrows the deficit to 3-1.

Hillsboro responded with three runs of its own the next half inning, however, blowing the game open. Sergio Alcantara and Zach Nehrir led off the inning with back-to-back singles and both came around to score when Dezzi doubled to left field. Dezzi then advanced to third on a single by Josh Anderson and scored when Fernery Ozuna hustled out a fielder's choice.
The two clubs traded single runs - both unearned - over the game's final five innings. Volcanoes' reliever Rayan Hernandez was effective in his career-high three innings of cleanup work, allowing only the unearned run while striking out three.
Nehrir was a thorn in Salem-Keizer's side once again, going 4-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. The Hops' leadoff man has gone 8-for-9 so far in this series.
Starter Jared Miller (2-0, 1.50 ERA) picked up the win for Hillsboro.Â
Player of the Game: Miguel Gomez spent his first game in the cleanup spot Wednesday night and responded accordingly, going 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI.
Up Next: The Volcanoes wrap up their series at Hillsboro tomorrow. Nate Santiago (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Salem-Keizer. The broadcast will be available on volcanoesbaseball.com or through the TuneIn Radio app. First pitch is set for 7:05.
