Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins concluded a quick two-game road trip this weekend, and although they were able to grab two of four points the P-Bruins were left feeling that it could have been a clean sweep. Both games ended in a 4-3 overtime loss, though Providence had two-goal leads in each of their defeats. With 16 points and a 7-4-2 record, Providence sits at fourth place in the Atlantic Division and fifth place overall in the Conference.

Despite two goals from Ryan Fitzgerald on Friday, including a game-tying third period goal, the P-Bruins fell to the first place Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins 4-3 on Saturday. Providence traveled to Springfield on Sunday, and even though they had a third period lead and three assists from Zach Senyshyn, the Thunderbirds scored three unanswered goals to win 4-3 in overtime. Both losses are the first two times Providence fell when taking a lead into the third period this year, and the team is currently on a three-game winless streak (0-1-2).

A pair of rookies put together their best weekends as pros, a positive sign given how many players have been recalled to Boston. Fitzgerald scored three goals and was a +3 in two games after scoring just two goals in 32 previous games. Among players currently on the roster, Fitzgerald is third in scoring with four goals and seven points. His fellow rookie Senyshyn posted his first four career assists to lead the team and after a slow start to his AHL career seems to have turned a corner recently. Austin Czarnik had a quiet weekend, but still leads the team with 10 points while Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson had a goal and an assist Sunday and is now second with nine points on the season.

Each goaltender on the roster made a start for Providence this weekend, and each allowed four goals in their overtime losses. Zane McIntyre stopped 25 of 29 shots against the first place Penguins, but ultimately allowed the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into overtime. Jordan Binnington made 32 saves on 36 shots but allowed a power play goal to end the game two minutes into overtime against Springfield. Special teams play, which has been superb all season, was not kind to the P-Bruins this week. The team was 1-12 on the power play and 5-8 on the penalty kill including an 0-3 performance Sunday.

Providence now returns home for a pair of games against the Hershey Bears. The first meeting at the Dunk between these teams is Friday at 7:05pm and, after an off day Saturday for both squads, conclude their mini-series Sunday at 1:05pm.
