P-Bruins Fall 4-3 in OT for Second Straight Game

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell in overtime to the Springfield Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon 4-3, dropping their second straight game in OT. The P-Bruins got goals from Ryan Fitzgerald, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and Emil Johansson while Jordan Binnington made his fourth start of the season in goal.

Providence had plenty of chances in the opening period with four missed power play chances, including a 5-on-3. Springfield had just one opportunity on the man advantage, but they were able to capitalize to grab a 1-0 lead. Alexandre Grenier found Curtis Valk in the right slot, who fired a shot towards Binnington. His shot hit the post and trickled away, but a strong backhand from Blaine Byron lit the lamp. Behind 16 first period saves from Harri Sateri and Byron's second goal of the season, the Thunderbirds brought a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Missed chances wouldn't be the story in the second for the P-Bruins, as the offense came to life with three goals in five minutes to give them the lead. Zach Senyshyn used his speed up the left side to create space, and a late centering feed found Fitzgerald streaking towards the net. His blast at 13:11 gave him his third goal in two days and fourth on the season, tying thing up 1-1. Just 2:07 later while on the PP, the P-Bruins grabbed their first lead of the game thanks to Forsbacka Karlsson's fourth goal of the year. Sena Acolatse blasted a slapshot on Sateri that he thought was in his pads, but the loose puck found Senyshyn. He fed a wide open Forsbacka Karlsson in the left slot as Providence grabbed a 2-1 lead.

The second period offense was not done yet, as Johansson netted his first career goal to give the team some breathing room. After Senyshyn, who picked up his third assist of the game on the play, entered the offensive zone, the puck got out to Forsbacka Karlsson. He found Johansson flying in towards the top of the right circle and his shot got through at give the P-Bruins their third goal in a span of 6:21. Springfield would add a late power play goal from Juho Lammikko, but Providence led 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Springfield would not go away, tying the game at 9:22 of the final period. From behind the net Anthony Greco centered the puck to Chase Balisy in front. He jammed away at the puck and, after a video review confirmed it, his fourth goal of the season sent Providence to overtime for the second straight night tied 3-3. Just 1:59 into overtime, Denis Malgin found Grenier all alone in front of Binnington on the power play. His backhander went in, and for the second time in two nights Providence fell 4-3.

Binnington stopped 32 of 36 shots while Sateri stopped 34 of 37. Providence was 1-6 on the power play and 0-3 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins are back in action Friday at 7:05pm when they welcome Hershey to town for the first of back-to-back games against the Bears at the Dunk.
