Monsters Weekly Storylines

With over 400 AHL appearances to his credit, in addition to 181 NHL games played and stints in several of Europe's top professional leagues, Monsters defenseman Andre Benoit is the elder statesman on the 2017-18 Cleveland roster. A two-time Calder Cup Champion, Benoit, 33, is new to the Monsters this season and presents the opportunity for an interesting personal profile of a player who has seen pretty much everything there is to see in pro hockey throughout a 13-year professional career. The Monsters' goal crease this season features an interesting dichotomy with steady-handed veteran Brad Thiessen and precocious Latvian rookie Matiss Kivlenieks splitting time between the pipes. Thiessen's and Kivlenieks' professional relationship is supportive, but not without a competitive element as the two jockey for playing time. Cleveland's goaltending situation this year, monitored by former Stanley Cup Champion Manny Legace, the Monsters' goaltending coach, presents an interesting dynamic to explore in a feature setting.

The Cleveland Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League playing at Quicken Loans Arena and the Canton Charge of the NBA G League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
