Providence Bruins News Release
Worcester, MA -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 5-2 Saturday evening at the DCU Center. Carter Camper scored twice, while Craig Cunningham, Matt Lindblad and Bobby Robins each had a goal. Malcolm Subban made 25 saves for his first professional victory.
Meeting for the first of 12 times during the 2013-14 regular season, the P-Bruins took the lead early on their division rivals when Camper converted a power play goal at the 3:45 mark of the opening period. It was Camper's first goal of the season with assists from Joe Morrow and Ryan Spooner. It was the only goal scored in the opening frame even though the P-Bruins out shot Worcester 13-7 in the period.
The P-Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 at the 6:30 mark of the second period with Cunningham scoring off a nice passing play between Spooner and Alexander Khokhlachev. For Cunningham it was his sixth goal of the season and fourth goal in two days. The P-Bruins made it 3-0 at the 13:27 mark, as Camper converted on a two man advantage for his second goal of the game and season. Spooner and David Warsofsky picked up assists on the goal as Providence grabbed a 3-0 lead going into the second intermission.
The Sharks finally got on the board at the 4:16 mark of the third period, as Eriah Hayes scored his second goal of the season. Taylor Doherty and Freddie Hamilton picked up the assists. Lindblad got the P-Bruins lead back to three at the 7:59 mark on a great individual effort to stick handle around Sharks goaltender Troy Grosenick and stuff the puck into the empty net. It was Lindblad's first goal of the season, with Justin Florek and Cunningham recording the assists. Bracken Kearns tried to start a comeback for the Sharks after stuffing home a goal line scramble at the 15:09 mark. It was a power play goal and his third goal of the season, while Daniil Tarasov and Sena Acolatse had the assists. Robins ended any hopes of a Sharks comeback with an empty net goal at the 19:58 mark, his first goal of the season. Lindblad and Florek grabbed the assists as Providence went onto the 5-2 victory.
Subban stopped 25 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Grosenick made 22 saves for the Sharks. Providence went 2-for-9 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Providence finishes their three-game weekend at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 3:05pm against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free megaphone. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home games visit www.providencebruins.com.
