
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates in Overtime 4-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates in overtime 4-3 Saturday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The P-Bruins got goals from Jeff Hoggan, Martins Karsums and Sean Curry. Opening night at The Dunk is Wednesday as the 8-1-1 Bruins take on the Pirates at 7:05 p.m.
Portland started the scoring at the 3:56 mark of the opening period. Aaron Rome took a shot from the right point and the puck was tipped into the P-Bruins net by Brandon Segal. Gordie Dwyer recorded the second assist. Ten seconds later Providence tied the game at one. Hoggan picked up a loose puck right outside the Pirates crease and put it in the net. The goal went unassisted and the game headed into the first intermission tied at one.
In the second period, the Pirates retook the lead at the 7:54 mark. Clay Wilson took a shot from the high point and sent the puck into the P-Bruins net. Jason King and Brendan Mikkelson had the assists. Providence tied the game at two on a power play of its own. Karsums scored from the right face-off circle with Curry and Vladimir Sobotka picking up the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at two.
In the third period, the Pirates once again went on top by a goal. At the 5:35 mark, Segal scored his second goal of the game, this time from the right face-off circle. Bobby Ryan and Brian Salcido grabbed the assists. With time running out in regulation the P-Bruins tied the game at three. At the 16:37 mark, Curry floated the puck into the net with Hoggan and Pascal Pelletier recording the assists. The game went into overtime tied at three.
In overtime, the Pirates went on the power play only 26 seconds into the extra session. The advantage proved costly to the Bruins as Ryan scored the game winning goal at the 1:25 mark with Andrew Ebbett and King getting the assists.
Jordan Sigalet played in net for the P-Bruins stopping 16 of 20 shots, while Mike McKenna made 34 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill.
