Adirondack Phantoms News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Ryan Potulny picked up where he left off Friday, scoring the first goal of the game and the eventual game-winner in the Philadelphia Phantoms 2-0 win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday Night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Scott Munroe earned the shutout with 29 saves for the Phantoms, who pushed their best-ever start to 12-1-1 for 25 points with the win.
Whereas it took the Phantoms 58 minutes to score last night, it only took 3:30 tonight. It was Potulny once again, this time converting on a power play. Steve Downie brought the puck in on the right wing and cut diagonally to the left-wing circle before putting a shot on net that was redirected by Potulny. Goaltender Brian Elliott was off-balance sliding the wrong way, but got a piece of the puck. Potulny was there to shove it in.
The second goal came with 1:57 remaining in the frame. Darroll Powe carried a puck deep into the right corner and centered for Boyd Kane, who deflected it past Elliott for the 2-0 advantage that stood firm the rest of the night.
The shutout was the third of the season for Philadelphia but the first solo feat for Munroe, who shared a scoreless performance with Brian Boucher a week ago. The Phantoms fired 43 shots at Elliott on the night. As for the Senators, they have now been shut out in three consecutive games and have not scored a goal in 186 minutes of play.
